The Secret Ingredient to Public Speaking Success that No-one is Talking About
Public speaking is a skill you can learn.
You can learn how to structure a presentation, how to project your voice, microphone techniques and how to stand. You can learn how to structure a presentation and how to hone your key messages. You can learn techniques to manage nerves and anxiety.
I can help you with all of these things. That’s the first step…
But there is a secret ingredient that few people are talking about.
The real journey to public speaking success is taking the next step – and becoming an empowered speaker.
And the key to becoming an empowered speaker is to become an empowered woman.
An empowered woman is in integrity with her values, and acts in alignment with her values in everything she does and says. She is nurturing and supportive of her body, mind and spirit, in a way that restores and renews her.
A woman who knows herself - and embraces all that she is and all that she can be - is like a shining light.
An empowered woman has an energy that can’t be denied. She is a force to be reckoned with.
Her power may be quiet. It may be watchful and observant. It may be gregarious and fun. Each of us has her own unique way.
And the best thing about a speaker who is an empowered woman? She creates a beautiful domino effect…and helps inspire and empower all those who hear her…especially other women.
Huh? I hear you say, THAT is the secret ingredient?!
So, what the heck does that mean? How do you become an empowered woman?!
Well, the path is different for everyone.
The question is…how do you step up to get on the path to becoming an empowered woman?
It means taking time to identify blind spots and reflect on thought patterns or behaviours that are holding you back.
It means learning how to manage your ‘inner critic’ - that harsh inner voice that is trying to protect you from emotional risk but so often stops you from stepping into all you can be.
It means connecting with your ‘inner mentor’ – so you build an internal resource to help you think more realistically and buoys you, rather than weighs you down – that helps you be more courageous.
It means figuring out the stuff that gets in your way. It means working out how you might get around, under or over those obstacles by developing new ways of thinking or new behaviours.
It means determining what your values are, and then how you can live in alignment with these values each and every day.
It means having clear boundaries around what you say “yes” and “no” to in life. It may mean stepping back from relationships that don’t nourish you, or friends and family members that leave you drained and depleted. It may mean building a new tribe, one that supports and nurtures you and cheers you on.
It means not staying small, but playing big in whatever way calls to you. That could mean trying new things, stretching yourself, and stepping out of your comfort zone.
It means making peace with the skin you’re in. Not being at war with your body. Yes, I know it’s really hard with the deluge of advertising and media images that promote an unattainable ideal of what a woman “should” look like. Which is why we need to reclaim and reshape the narrative so that we embrace the diversity and beauty of each and every body.
It means reconnecting with your deep inner wisdom, listening to the whispers of your soul and heeding them.
It means connecting with your big “why”…why you’re here on earth…and then figuring out how to do that.
And it’s an ongoing process.
Sounds good right?
What’s holding you back?
Sounds a bit overwhelming? A bit daunting? A bit hard to figure out where to start? Or how the hell you’ll do it on your own?
Is there a part of you that wants to step back because that feels safer, less stressful and less scary?
Or do you not yet know what you want? So yearn for clarity and focus in order to feel you have direction?
Perhaps you’re already stepping out of your comfort zone but want to go even further? To build skills and techniques to elevate your life and career to the next level?
I’ve found that this journey is not one you just do with your head. It requires working in an integrated way with body, mind and spirit - because to be truly in our power we need body, mind and spirit to be in alignment.
I help you tap into your deep inner wisdom and reconnect with that ancient wise part of you.
I’m right there with you every step of the way.
If you make a conscious decision to become more empowered and you make space to think about how this might look for you, you may start to see the way forward that is right for you.
But it does take action - a willingness and a commitment to make change.
I know, you were kinda hoping for a list of easy quick tips…
I wish I could give a list like that….”do these five things and you’ll become empowered”, but it just isn’t that simple. Becoming an empowered woman, and hence a more empowered speaker who impacts and empowers others, doesn’t happen overnight. But the first step starts now. You’re reading this. Good on you.
